On December 15, Michigan small businesses directly impacted by COVID-19 that meet the qualifications can apply for grants of up to $15,000. The funds can be used to help cover payroll expenses, utility costs, and rent or mortgage payments.
According to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, businesses must be within the following industries to be eligible to apply for the first-come, first-served grants:
• Restaurants, bars and other food and beverage service providers
• Travel and tourism destinations including lodging providers
• Live event venues and movie theaters
• Conference and meeting facilities
• Ice skating rinks, indoor water parks and bowling centers
• Gyms and fitness centers
Eligible businesses must be for-profit entities, be in compliance with all local and state COVID-19 orders, have at least two employees but less than 50 employees, have a physical place of business in the county of application (home-based businesses are excluded), and have had annual gross revenues greater than $25,000 in in 2019. This initiative will use federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding to award grants to at least 670 small businesses across the state of Michigan.
